Whaling already hurting tourism to Iceland
How many times have you heard, “Good for you, good for the environment, good for business”?
It’s true. I was recently at an event where publishing and sustainability were discussed and it looks like that he idea of sustainability has hit the mainstream. Wal-Mart, Time Inc, JC Pennys and more have incorporated sustainability heavily into their cultures. It’s quite impressive and hopeful.
Why? Good for business! Here’s an example of how NOT being sustainable can be BAD for business. (More on the event I mention above later this week.)
REYKJAVIK (AFP) - Iceland’s decision earlier this week to resume commercial whaling despite an international ban has already hurt the country’s tourism industry, with several whale watching companies reporting cancellations.
“We have received several emails from people saying they have decided not to visit Iceland as long as Iceland is conducting whaling,” Thorunn Harvardottir of the whale watching company Nordursiglingar in eastern Iceland told AFP Friday.
